We need your help! As part of Retirement USA’s “Wake Up, Washington!" Month, the Pension Rights Center is looking for stories from individuals who have concerns about their retirement security. Tell us your story!
“Wake Up, Washington!” Month is a month-long speak-out about retirement security that will take place from September 15 to October 15. The month will be a time for Americans across the country to tell lawmakers to keep their hands off of Social Security and to fix the real retirement income problem – our nation’s patchwork private retirement system.
To kick off the Month, Retirement USA is launching a Story Bank, a collection of personal stories about people’s fears and concerns for retirement. Washington isn't paying enough attention to the retirement concerns of workers and retirees, so we need to speak out. The stories will be used to show lawmakers the reality of the retirement income crisis. Tell us your story!
We are looking for people of all ages and from all walks of life to share their stories. You can write to us about your concerns. You can send us a video or audio recording of yourself talking about your concerns, or submit a written story. You can also interview a friend or a family member about their concerns for retirement. Make your voice heard!
Stories can be from people who don’t have a pension or a 401(k); retirees who are having difficulty making ends meet; people who have just a 401(k) and lost a lot of money in the recent recession; even those with a guaranteed pension and are not worried about retirement; parents who may not be concerned about their own retirement, but worry about their children’s retirement future, and more.
Working Americans deserve a secure, comfortable retirement, and they deserve a retirement system that they can count on. Make your voice heard!
Retirement USA is a campaign working for a new retirement system that, along with Social Security, will provide universal, secure, and adequate income for future retirees. The campaign was started by the AFL-CIO, the Economic Policy Institute, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, the Pension Rights Center, and the Service Employees International Union. To date 22 other organizations have signed on in support of the Retirement USA principles. If your organization wants to sign on let us know.
