The Pension Rights Center is delighted to welcome the Illinois Pension Assistance Project (IPAP) as the latest addition to the Pension Counseling and Information Program. Now residents of Illinois who have a question about their traditional pension, 401(k) plan, or other employer-sponsored retirement plan can turn to IPAP for free personalized legal assistance to resolve their problem.

IPAP will be run by the Pension Action Center at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, which also oversees the New England Pension Assistance Project. The Center’s announcement about the Illinois project reads in part:

The Pension Action Center of the Gerontology Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston has received a grant from The Retirement Research Foundation to expand its pension counseling services to Illinois. The Illinois Pension Assistance Project (IPAP) will replicate the Pension Action Center’s highly successful New England Pension Assistance Project (NEPAP) and will offer free pension counseling services to Illinois residents starting July 2, 2012.

Illinois has a significant number of workers and retirees who have participated in pension plans. However, it was not among the 29 states served by a U.S. Administration on Aging Pension Counseling and Information Project. Thanks to the Chicago-based Retirement Research Foundation’s generous grant, the Pension Action Center will help Illinois residents increase their knowledge of and access to retirement income benefits.

To contact the Illinois project, call toll-free 888-425-6067 or fill out the project’s on-line help request form.

The number of states covered by a pension counseling project now stands at 30. For more information about the projects and the terrific work that they do, read our brochure about the Pension Counseling and Information Program.
